Trapped in Suburbia | Graphic Design
Trapped in Suburbia started beginning of 2004 in the suburb 'Mariahoeve' in the Hague, the Netherlands. It started with Cuby Gerards and Karin Langeveld working from their home in a tiny apartment on the third floor. And because we like to use humor in our work we thought it was a good idea put a little humor in the name as well. Hence the name 'Trapped in Suburbia'. We are now located in the old Caballero Factory, which is a very inspiring place to be.
Cuby has studied photography, graphic & typographic design and advertising. He started his career in advertising and went back to designing when we started Trapped in Suburbia, he likes to combine the best of both worlds.
Karin studied graphic & typographic design and did here masters degree in design at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. After working as a independent designer for several years the idea grew to join forces with Cuby and the result is Trapped in Suburbia. Since 2006 Karin teaches typography to third grade students of the art school in Utrecht.
Next to the design agency we also run the art gallery 'Ship of Fools' and with this we focus on contemporary urban arts. You're more than welcome to drop by if you're in the neighborhood. Check out the gallery's website for more info on the current expo's.
At the moment we are working with 4 designers, an part-time illustrator and usually a graphic design intern. You can find more info on our designers in the 'portfolio' section.
Trapped in Suburbia | Grafisch Ontwerp
Trapped in Suburbia is begonnen in 2004 in de Haagse buitenwijk Mariahoeve. We (Cuby Gerards en Karin Langeveld) zijn begonnen vanuit een kleine flatje, drie hoog achter. En omdat we niet vies zijn van een beetje humor, is onze naam hierop gebaseerd. Inmiddels zijn we gevestigd in een oude sigaretten fabriek 'de Caballero Fabriek' en zijn we het flatje meer dan uitgegroeid.
Cuby heeft fotografie, grafisch en typografische vormgeving en advertising gestudeerd. Hij begon zijn carrière in de reclame, maar ging weer aan het ontwerpen toen we Trapped in Suburbia zijn gestart en combineert graag het beste van beide werelden.
Karin heeft grafisch en typografische vormgeving gestudeerd en heeft haar masters in design behaald aan het Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. Na een aantal jaren als zelfstandig ontwerper te hebben gewerkt, groeide het idee om de krachten te bundelen en dat resulteerde in Trapped in Suburbia. Sinds 2006 geeft Karin typografie in het derde jaar aan de Hogeschool van de Kunsten Utrecht.
Naast het ontwerpbureau runnen wij ook de art gallery 'Ship of Fools' waarmee we ons specialiseren in moderne stedelijke kunst. Je bent meer dan welkom om even binnen te lopen als je in de buurt bent. Check de site voor meer info over de huidige exposities.
