The exhibition Looted Art – 10 Stories shows the complex struggle of museums around stolen art. The exhibition highlights three periods of art theft: by the French revolutionaries in 1795, by the Nazis from Jewish owners and colonial looted art. With virtual reality you discover the history of these objects. The artist duo Jongsma + O'Neill uses video installations and digital techniques to make tangible how this history still has an effect.

This exhibition does not focus on the beauty or cultural value of the objects, but on the painful, unexpected and complex stories behind them. What you see is not always what it seems, and that sense of confusion forms the core of the design. Objects such as the portrait of Rembrandt and the Kris are presented very low, while the Quadriga head is placed high, exactly as in the VR experience. In this way, reality and virtuality merge.

The space is completely in the colour 'digital lavender', which initially feels disorienting but gradually becomes more neutral. This immediately sets the tone: this is no ordinary exhibition. The spatial design is reminiscent of a storage space, allowing visitors to imagine the scale of looted art worldwide, despite the limited number of objects on display. Empty blocks symbolize the absent artworks, the things that remain hidden.
